Our Story
Northwest Cooperation and Development Center (TABA) is a Vietnamese non-governmental organization established on October 18, 2011, under the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Hoa Binh province.
TABA represents the strength, innovation and change of the mountains, forests and people of Tay Bac (NorthWest). TABA incorporates the spirit of Tay Bac into modern and professional business and agribusiness activities. TABA acknowledges that the distinct cultures and social organizations in each area are manifested in social, cultural practices, traditional agricultural cultivation practices, and the use of local and indigenous crops and foods in response to climate change. These agriculture heritages are invaluable assets. TABA strives to develop and empower the local indigenous women, their communities and agricultural products in Vietnam and connect them to the outside world.
TABA focuses include:
(i) economic empowerment to support ethnic minority farmers to increase their income through indigenous knowledge-based and climate change responsive agricultural production activities;
(ii) voice of community to focus on implementing initiatives to raise the voice of communities, especially women and girls and ethnic minorities for their active role and voice in socio-economic development planning and implementation and in decision-making process;
(iii) research related directly to the development opportunities of minority groups, including policies, economics, culture, environment, forest and forestland so as to provide evidence for initiatives to increase the citizen participation in the process of developing and implementing economic development plans;
(iv) networking to prioritize linking and building alliances which aim to implement advocacy activities at the district, provincial and national level for socio-economic development of ethnic minority groups; and
(v) communication to raise people’s awareness about the role and rights of ethnic minorities with focus on the ownership of forests, forestland, and the way ethnic minority groups are living & adapting to the environment in the context of global climate change.
(vi) consultancy services on building business strategy and plan, business model and building cooperation mechanism in line with Eco-tourism and eco-farming Villages and Eco-tourism products; capacity building for local people to implement their business.

We accompany ethnic minority groups and focus on ethnic minority women and girls to develop their careers, strengthen their independence, and empower their positions in their families and societies.

TABA is an active member of The Agroecology Learning alliance in South East Asia (ALiSEA). The ALiSEA’s goal is to enable local and regional agroecology stakeholders to leverage one another’s expertise to produce evidence-based studies and share them broadly to support a regional transition towards agroecology.
