The landscape system is understood to include natural landscapes such as mountains, forests, rivers, and streams, as well as landscapes created by the community during their daily life and labor, reflecting the community’s cultural characteristics, such as terraced fields, village architecture, and houses…
Tourism development, over the years, has posed a threat to the distinctive landscape systems of each region. Hills are being leveled to make way for accommodations and dining facilities; villages are losing their traditional architecture, replaced by urban-style buildings that are alien to the community lifestyle. This situation demands proper planning and management to preserve and develop the natural landscape system.
Studying the current situation, seeking and analyzing typical cases of both success and failure, to find solutions for landscape preservation alongside tourism development, is our main task in this activity.
This activity is part of the project “Preserving and Developing the Landscape System in Tourism Development in Northern Mountainous Provinces” implemented by the TABA Center. The project is funded by the Embassy of Finland under the Local Cooperation Program (FLC). The project is being carried out over two years, aiming to contribute to preserving the natural landscape system in community tourism destinations in Van Ho district, Son La province.
The research is expected to be completed by June 2024. TABA will publish and share the research results with the community, relevant authorities, and policymakers.
